Launch of TECHNO-TAMALADAS 2.0

  • Pro ARTS Gallery & Commons 150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza Oakland, CA, 94612 United States (map)

Over 2020 we will be hosting Techno-Tamaladas, performances, video screenings, talks, and more – at the Launch of this new series on Saturday, February 22, 2020, from 2pm-4pm at Pro Arts Gallery & Commons (150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Oakland, California), I will share the overall vision of the project. Special guest Charlotte Sáenz will demonstrate the nixtamalization process, artist Ben Simmons will create media, and dates and locations of upcoming tamaladas will be announced.

The Techno Tamaladas 2.0 follow the first series held at ECAP food bank in 2019, where we made and shared 1,500 tamales! Come find out the dates and locations of upcoming Tamaladas on Meso-American, African American, and Colombian tamales being held in Fruitvale, Downtown Oakland, and Berkeley.

Charlotte Sáenz collaborates with the Indigenous Center for Integral Learning of the Universidad de la Tierra in Chiapas, Mexico, studies the Zapatista’s mutual teaching and learning politics at ECOSUR: Colegio de la Frontera Sur in Chiapas, works on building transnational local solidarity through popular co-education initiatives between farmers, activist scholars and organizers, and collaborates with other change makers to disrupt dominant narratives, expand perspectives, produce collective knowledge and connect people to new social action.
